Medicare coverage continues during Social Security’s 9-month trial work period (see discussion of return to work activities and Social Security Disability Benefits). After that, for the next 39 months, Medicare coverage will continue so long as Social Security considers you disabled even for those months during the period when earnings are too high to receive SSD cash benefits. If you are still disabled when Medicare coverage runs out after the 39-month period, you may purchase the same coverage for a monthly premium. For more information, visit Social Security’s website.
